Hardinge-Bridgeport XR760 CNC Mill (Added Dec 2014)

This Bridgeport XR760 is our most modern machine, which we mainly use for the production of larger items. With a roomy interior for plenty of space to machine, it is capable of machining pretty much any size item to our maximum size. It is better suited for the removal of stock aluminium, so it is also used for profiling work.

Bridgeport VMC460 CNC Mill

The Bridgeport VMC 460 is our smaller mill, mainly intended for production work of smaller, longer run items. Capable of machining a range of materials and a variety of small to medium sizes. It can handle some larger items, though we favour our larger mill for such tasks.

Colchester Tornado A50 CNC Lathe

Our main workhorse lathe, this machine until recently was our only CNC lathe. Due to the need to increase capacity, our A90 was added. This lathe primarily does our smaller diameter parts work and is set up to bar feed for hands-off production.

Manual Machines

Although we vastly favour CNC lathes and mills for our work, occasionally there isn't any need to program or set up a machine for production. We also use manual mills and lathes for modification work, which allows us to easily perform low volume modifications on produced parts. So far, we have two manual turret mills and two manual lathes of various sizes. Of particular note is our Dean, Smith and Grace Type 13 Lathe, first produced in the 1970s and a genuine vintage machine.

Kondia Powermill FV-1 VS

The Kondia Powermill FV-1 is a Spanish made manual mill that was made between 1960 and 1980, though the variable speed version we have is the later model. The main difference between the FV-1 and the FV-1 VS is that the VS version has a variable speed capability and can go up to 4000rpm, higher than the standard 2500rpm. It is also capable of running in a low gear and a high gear, as well as being capable of running in reverse, making this a very versatile manual mill for various purposes. The low gear allows higher torque at the sacrifice of RPM, whereas the high gear is more suitable for higher speed machining. As for the reverse gear, this allows certain operations such as cutting a left handed thread without the need for a CNC Mill. This mill is usually used for one-off and low-run machine work that doesn't usually require significant work to produce.

Adcock-Shipley Bridgeport Type J

Utilising the Bridgeport Type J motor head, this manual mill by Adcock-Shipley was made in Leicester in 1974. Providing a small variety of features, this manual mill can run at a minimum of
